The wines of Ribera del Duero are more popular than ever and Bodegas Monteabellon is rapidly emerging as one of this region’s best sources for accessible and well-priced wines. The Winemaker and creative force at Bodegas Monteabellon is none other than Isaac Fernandez, nephew of the legendary ex-Vega Sicilia Winemaker, Mariano Garcia. Isaac worked alongside his uncle at Bodegas Mauro for many years before establishing Bodegas Monteabellon – and this experience is immediately evident across the entire range at Bodegas Monteabellon. These wines showcase decidedly superior quality at prices that almost seem to cheap to believe!
Bodegas Monteabellon owns more than 150 acres spread across numerous plots all located with the Nava de Roa commune, more or less at the geographic centre of Ribera del Duero. The younger and less expensive wines produced at Bodegas Monteabellon are generally grown in the lower altitude and valley bottom vineyard sites, vs. the higher end releases which are growing on higher elevation hillside sites. Finally, the Finca la Blanquera release is a single vineyard selection grown on a unique pure white limestone soil. While still a relatively young winery, the feedback thus far from consumers, Sommeliers, and leading wine critics around the world suggest an extremely bright future for Bodegas Monteabellon ahead.
