Why We Love It:
It’s nice to think that I am more eloquent and articulate when it comes to describing any of our wines, but this week we came upon a description of this wine from an LCBO Product Consultant (@TorontoVino) who took to Instagram to share his enthusiasm for this wine:
—
“For 143yrs the historic building has been part of the same family generation after generation with the same uncompromising tradition and passion. Lopez De Heredia is one of Spain’s most revered producers, becoming mom of a cult classic only known to the ultimate wine connoisseurs. Their wines are usually released 5-10yrs after harvest, giving them added elegance and complexity. The fruit is sourced completely from their own famed/prized/iconic vineyards. They only use natural yeast and even make their own barrels. This is a place where time seems to stand still. Their Gran Reservas are only produced in truly exceptional Vintages. So immense is their respect for quality that in 142yrs of existence, they have only produced about 22 of them. To taste these wines is a unique experience as not much is made for the entire world. This wine is a MUST and If you’re lucky enough to run into them, you buy what you can carry and then come back for more! If there was only one; one wine to buy from Spain right now…. it is definitely THIS ONE!”

Tasting Notes:
“Following the appreciation of the 2007 vintage from María José López de Heredia, the red 2007 Viña Tondonia Reserva is showing great, revealing unusual finesse and elegance. The nose is a little reticent but nuanced and complex, a little shy rather than explosive. The palate is medium-bodied, and the tannins are very refined. This has to be one of the finest vintages of Viña Tondonia Reserva of recent years. It was bottled in November 2015. Drink date: 2019-2030.”
