[ Why We Love It: ]

For eight years prior to the purchase of Chateau Angles, proprietor-winemaker Eric Fabre was entrusted with sustaining the immense reputation of Bordeaux Chateau Lafite-Rothschild as technical director. Eric and his family moved to the south coast in 2001, a change of not only location but also climate and favoured grave varietals. Consisting of the classic southern French blend of, Grenache, Mouvedre, and Syrah, look for lush red fruit accompanied by leather and spice, embraced by smooth, silky tannins.

[ Tasting Notes: ]

“The inky purple 2012 La Clape Classique is an outstanding blend of 40% Grenache, 40% Syrah and 20% Mourvèdre. It exhibits plenty of sweet red fruits, new leather, spice and licorice to go with a silky, easy drinking, yet elegant and balanced profile on the palate. Completely destemmed and brought up all in vats, it should drink nicely for 4-5 years. It also represents a smoking value.”
