[ Farming & Vineyards ]

Chanson Reserve du Bastion Pinot Noir is produced from 100% Cote d’Or grapes, and the result is a wine delivering elegance and refinement beyond the humble pedigree of its “Bourgogne” designation. These vineyard sites are home to the classic Burgundian clay/limestone soil profile offering well-drained soils producing wines of superior concentration and complexity. Another advantage to the enhanced pedigree of the fruit for this wine is that vineyard practices, crop yields and harvest handling reflect the high standards employed at Chanson in the production of more expensive Grand Cru, 1er Cru and Villages level bottlings.

[ Winemaking & Aging ]

Domaine Chanson Winemaker – Jean Pierre Confuron – was recently recognized by the prestigious Revue du Vin de France as the 2014 Winegrower of the Year. This honour builds on a lifetime of achievement as one of France’s most celebrated and accomplished winemaking professionals – including recognition as French Winery of the Year in 2013, according to Wine & Spirit Magazine. Along with Managing Director at Chanson – Gilles de Courcel – this tandem has deep roots in Burgundy and their shared thumbprint on each bottle of Chanson wine reflects decades of experience and insight in working with the most privileged terroirs across the appellation. This Pinot Noir is aged in a combination of new and older French oak barrels and is comprised of declassified production from sites across the Cote d’Or.

[ Tasting Notes ]

“Once of the best vintages for this entry level pinot noir in recent memory. Colour is a pretty star-bright garnet. Exhibiting great purity of fruit – dominated by cherries – sour, black and bing. Delicate notes of pepper and musk elevate the fruit and add dimension to the palate. Very clean, neat and focused. Light to mid weight but substantially complex. An impressive layereing of flavours holds interest and includes notes of fleshy fruit, pine needles and resin, dried herbs, violets and pepper. The tannins are helped out by some bright but unobtrusive tannins and ensure longevity. Very good length.”
