“Bright, deep golden yellow; this looks like a sweet wine. Deep aromas of candied apricot, peach nectar, lemon jelly and musky honeydew melon complicated by marmaladey botrytis tones. Then amazingly rich and unctuous in the mouth without being sweet, showing rich, very persistent flavors of tangerine, apricot and coriander. This was made with about 30% noble rot-affected grapes (just as in 2006, Burn tells me), which adds a note of marzipan on the seamless, opulent finish. Made from vines over 50 years of age, including a 0.35-hectare parcel that has survived in the Goldert grand cru. Harvested at the end of October, this is one of the top five sylvaners (dry or sweet) I have ever tasted.”
