Rave Review: VinousMedia.com on 2009 Ernest Burn Riesling Grand Cru Goldert Clos St Imer – 92 Points!
“Bright straw-green with a golden tinge. Aromas of yellow peach, honey, rocks and diesel fuel. Clean, lively aromas of nectarine, honey and flowers are complicated by hints of raisin and dried apricot. This lovely wine shows impeccable balance, starting sweet but finishing lemony and dry. About 40% of the grapes were affected by passerillage but the wine comes across as bright and lemony-fresh. I find wines with this kind of light touch to be very typical of the Goldert, which manages to pack in lots of concentrated but very finely chiseled, almost ethereal fruit (the Goldert wines of Zind-Humbrecht share this characteristic). “The 2009 vintage was a pleasure to harvest,” Burn told me. “The grapes were so healthy you could have picked them wearing a blindfold and you still couldn’t have gone wrong.”
