Rave Review: VinousMedia.com on 2009 Ernest Burn Gewurztramuiner Grand Cru Goldert Clos St Imer Vendage Tardive – 92 Points!
“Vivid golden yellow. Very delicate aromas of apple, orange jam, iris and peony. Peppery acidity nicely frames and lifts tropical fruit (pineapple, green papaya, lime) and baked apple flavors. Finishes suave and vibrant, with penetrating repeating notes of apple and lime. This strikes me as much better than the regular 2009 Saint Imer Gewürz bottling, but I couldn’t help but wish for a little marmaladey or smoky botrytis for added complexity. The 2009 vintage was very hot and not especially good for botrytis formation, so most of the late-harvest wines that year were the product of passerillage. Burn told me that the grapes used to make this 2009 VT were brown like raisins when he picked them, “literally burned by the sun.” Had you asked me before I tasted the wine, I would never have guessed that raisins like this could be turned into such a delicate wine.”
