Reviews & Tasting Notes

[ Story: ]

Vigilance Winery is a certified sustainable producer of premium wines located in Lake County, California. The Vigilance Winery name was inspired by the sheep dogs who tend to the flock of sheep which roam the vineyards across this property. The vineyards here at Vigilance Winery cover some 236 acres of this 300 acre parcel situated in the prime Red Hills Lake County AVA. Owner Clay Shannon proudly emphasizes a generous and fruit forward style in the production of these wines – and in turn, they are subjected to a little bit of new oak treatment. This aids with integration and provides a touch of added complexity while allowing the bright ripe flavours of this special terroir to take centre stage.

In addition to good-value wines, Vigilance offers a beautiful tasting room – an old farmhouse built from virgin redwood that Shannon has completely redone – with unparalleled views of the Anderson Marsh State Historic Park and Clear Lake below, plus picnic tables and bocce courts. Speaking about this beautiful property and delicious line-up of wines, Clay Shannon sums it up perfectly: “We’ re normal people, we didn’t inherit this. Everybody is in this thing to make a ton of money. You don’t own money, the only thing you really truly have is your honor, your soul, your body. We say let’s just try and make a living, have some fun, offer some folks some good products and become their friends; those are the kinds of wines we make.”
