[ Mendocino County – California ]
[ Story: ]
Saracina Vineyards is a leader in the production of delicious California wines – both in terms of the recognition and acclaim received by their wines, but also in their approach to winegrowing and stewardship of their land. Saracina is a stunning 600+ acre farm, situated just outside of the small town of Hopland, in the heart of Mendocino Country. Here owners, John Fetzer and his wife Patty Rock, oversee approximately 250 acres of organic vineyards amidst incredible bio-diverse surroundings. Owner John Fetzer has been a leader and champion of organics in California throughout his lifetime immersed in the wine business.
This California Certified Organic (CCOF) farm is home to a 100-year-old olive grove, orchards, vegetable gardens and a wide variety of natural spaces meant to preserve and promote the natural heritage and landscape of this special place. The varietal wines produced at Saracina Vineyards are handcrafted and come exclusively from organically farmed vineyards. In addition to these stunningly delicious small-production wines, Saracina crafts delicious red and white blends under the Atrea brand. The white – dubbed The Choir – and red – called The Old Soul – are Rhone inspired blends made from interesting single vineyard blocks.
Toronto born winemaker Alex MacGregor has played a key role in helping Fetzer elevate the reputation of Mendocino Country as a source of high quality small-lot wines. With a balanced approach, respecting history while embracing the best of modern technology, Saracina Vineyards sits atop the quality pyramid in this rapidly emerging California AVA.
