[ Rias Baixas – Spain ]
[ Story: ]
Albarino is hot, hot, hot – and that’s mostly because this part of Spain is not, not, not… Lagar de Cervera is situated in the heart of Spain’s best terroir for the production of high quality white wines. Deep rich alluvial soils combine with a cooler maritime climate and plenty of rainfall (well at least as compared to the rest of Spain) to create a generous sanctuary perfectly suited to producing clean refreshing white wines. This is where the Albarino grape enters the mix – one of the most fashionable whites on the market today.
If you were to concoct a hypothetical (and delicious sounding!) combination of Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling and Viognier, all wrapped up in a single grape you’d have something akin to Albarino on your hands. This white grape produces wines with amazing fresh bright fruit with tremendous concentration and freshness. When made well, these wine offer pleasure in equal measure as either patio style sippers, or as a perfect pairing next to shellfish, seafood, light fish, chicken or pork dishes.
Lagar de Cervera is owned by the legendary Rioja house La Rioja Alta S.A. – also owners of the celebrated Ribera del Duero producer Bodegas Aster and the single estate property Torre de Ona in the Rioja Alavesa.
