2014 Clos des Lunes “Lune d’Argent”

EXPERTISE OF DOMAINE DE CHEVALIER – UNDER $35

New from Olivier & Hugo Bernard of Domaine de Chevalier

Clos des Lunes is a new project owned and operated by Olivier Bernard and his son Hugo – owners of Domaine de Chevalier. Encompassing some 100 or so acres, this is an exciting new range of wines grown in Sauternes – but produced as dry white Bordeaux. The “Lune d’Argent” label is made from 70% Semillon and 30% Sauvignon Blanc and showcases the insight, know-how and generational expertise of one of Bordeaux’s most respected white wine producing families.

Here, very old vines (averaging 35+ years) join forces with discerning and quality minded production methods to create a singular and delicious white blend. Grapes for this wine were harvested plot by plot at their peak of ripeness – all in all, over the course of nearly 30 days between early September and early October. Slowly and gently pressed, the wine was allowed to age for 6-7 months – 25% in barrel and 75% in vat before bottling.

The result is a magnificent white Bordeaux – perfect to serve as an aperitif, with soft cheeses or with milder seafood or fish dishes. This is a refined, finessed and highly pedigreed white demonstrating phenomenal concentration, length and mineral complexity. All the hallmarks of a classic white Bordeaux are on display – all at a humble price compared to wines of similar pedigree and quality.
