To enhance its unique style, bouquet and aromas, Special Cuvée is best served between 8 and 10°C.

VIEUX TELEGRAPHE 2014 CHATEAUNEUF DU PAPE “TELEGRAMME” – SOUTHERN RHONE, FRANCE

Telegramme – the second label from the iconic Chateauneuf-du-Pape producer Vieux Telgraphe – is a stunning value red from France’s southern Rhone valley. Produced from younger vines (less than 30 years old) and some older plots (not on La Crau or Piedlong) this bold, spicy red is comprised of 80% Grenache, 10% Syrah, 6% Mourvedre and 4% Cinsault. All the grapes for this wine are hand-harvested, double sorted in the field and finally subject to a third hand sorting as they arrive at the cellar. Once destemmed, a slow, cool fermentation takes place over 25-30 days. The wine is then allowed to age – 10 months in steel tanks, 7 months in large oak foudres, bottled at 15-16 months and released to market at 18 months. All in all, this is stupendous value packed full of southern Rhone character and charm.

RECOMMENDED PAIRINGS:
Gorgonzola Risotto w/ Grilled Figs
T-Bone Steak Basted in Rosemary-Thyme Butter
Lamb Shanks Braised in Tomato w/ Rosemary Polenta

TECHNICAL SPECS:
Producer: Domaine du Vieux Telegraphe
Wine: Chateauneuf du Pape Rouge “Telegramme”
Vintage: 2014
Region: Southern Rhone, France
Bottle Size: 750mL
Cases: 12 x 750mL
Price: $49.95 per 750mL

TASTING NOTE:
“Brilliant red. A lively, spice-tinged nose displays zesty red berry and floral scents, along with hints of succulent herbs and white pepper. Taut red currant and strawberry flavors open up and deepen slowly with air, showing very good clarity and picking up a sweet lavender pastille quality. Shows appealing finesse and nerve, with no rough edges, and finishes on a resonating floral note with sneaky, harmonious tannins.” – 90-92 out of 100 (John Raynolds – Vinous.com)

VIEUX TELEGRAPHE 2013 CHATEAUNEUF DU PAPE “LA CRAU” – SOUTHERN RHONE, FRANCE

What makes a wine “great”? Well, I suppose like most sensory experiences, great wine is very much in the eye (or more aptly – the mouth!) of the beholder. That said, there are certain empirical qualities that make wines special, sought-after, expensive and worth hunting down. For me, wines that offer the potential to not just last a long time, but rather improve, evolve and express new flavours as they age offer profound drinking pleasure. As we proceed through this checklist, I am hard-pressed to find another wine made anywhere that manages to over-deliver on these criteria quite like the top cuvee here from Vieux Telegraphe. The union of incredibly concentrated, rich and ripe dark red and black fruit come together around tannic texture reminiscent of the hot dry stones that litter La Crau, a high plateau owned almost entirely by the Brunier family at Vieux Telegraphe, and a site which has without a doubt become the definitive “Grand Cru” site in all of Chateauneuf-du-Pape.

RECOMMENDED PAIRINGS:
Rosemary-Crusted Rack Lamb w/ Olive Oil Whipped Potatoes
Pear & Gorgonzola Stuffed Ravioli
Daube de Boeuf (Provencal Braised Beef)

TECHNICAL SPECS:
Producer: Domaine du Vieux Telegraphe
Wine: Chateauneuf du Pape
Vintage: 2013
Region: Southern Rhone, France
Bottle Size: 750mL
Cases: 12 x 750mL
Price: $105 per 750mL

TASTING NOTE:
The top cuvee is the 2013 Châteauneuf du Pape, and it’s always a rough blend of 65% Grenache (mostly not destemmed), 15% each of Syrah and Mourvedre, and the rest Cinsault and other permitted varieties. Aged all in foudre, it offers classic rolled-stone-like minerality, spice, licorice and dark fruits to go with medium-bodied richness and depth, integrated acidity and fine tannin. This will be a classic Châteauneuf du Pape that will evolve nicely for 10-15 years.” – 91-93 out of 100  (Jeb Dunnuck, Robert Parker.com)

DOMAINE LES PALIERES 2012 GIGONDAS “LES RACINES” – SOUTHERN RHONE, FRANCE

Adjacent to the celebrated Southern Rhone wine village of Chateauneuf du Pape, we come upon Gigongas – undeniably one of the Rhone’s greatest sources for high quality red wines. And it is here in Gigongas that the Brunier family (of Vieux Telegraphe fame) joined forces with their American importer, Kermit Lynch, to purchase one of this region’s most highly regarded and longest operating properties. This released from Les Pallieres, dubbed “Les Racines” is produced from the vineyard parcels immediately surrounding the winery (the oldest vines) and is crafted with the goal of offering a opulent ripeness and complexity, all within a balanced and refreshing frame. The final blend here contains 80% Grenache and 15% Syrah, with smaller amounts of other local varieties.

RECOMMENDED PAIRINGS:
Balsamic Skirt Steak Tacos w/ Blue Cheese
Lamb & Roasted Onion Kebabs w/ Tomato-Prune Sauce
Grilled Ribeye w/ Pistachio Butter

TECHNICAL SPECS:
Producer: Domaine les Pallieres
Wine: Gigondas “Les Racines”
Vintage: 2012
Region: Southern Rhone, France
Bottle Size: 750mL
Cases: 12 x 750mL
Price: $49.00 per 750mL

TASTING NOTE:
“Full ruby. A highly perfumed bouquet evokes ripe red and dark berries, potpourri and minerals, with a hint of star anise in the background. Stains the palate with intense black raspberry and floral pastille flavors that deepen and become sweeter with air. Fine-grained tannins build on the strikingly long, focused finish, which leaves notes of cherry compote and licorice behind.” – 93 out of 100 (Josh Raynolds, Vinous.com)

We are very pleased to introduce 4 fine Scottish Single Malts specially selected to commemorate the 150th anniversary of a storied Canadian regiment.

The 36th Peel Battalion and the 20th Halton Battalion of Infantry were both Gazetted in 1866. Both units were Regiments of the Line. However, their Scottish heritage was sown with the Marquis of Lornes’ visit to the 20th Halton Battalion in 1879. They formed a pipe band in 1881 and started wearing tartan trews and diced glengarries. The 20th Halton Rifles became the 20th Halton Battalion, Lorne Rifles. Many of today’s Regimental traditions date back to this historic visit.

Amalgamated in 1936, creating The Lorne Scots (Peel, Dufferin and Halton Regiment) their 150 years of service reflects the history of Canada spanning the Fenian Raids, the Northwest Rebellion, South Africa, the First World War, the Second World War, the Cold War, and the War in Afghanistan, as well as NATO and UN peacekeeping missions abroad and natural disasters at home, the Regiment’s record of service reflect its 150 years of proud heritage.

To commemorate the 150th anniversary of this storied regiment, we have selected four very special Glenfarclas whiskies, 8 yr old, 10 yr old and 12 yr old – to honour each of the founding regiments (Peel, Dufferin and Halton) and finally, a single cask bottling of 2007 Glenfarclas, in honour of the Lorne Scots.
