WINERY PROFILE | Domaine Ernest Burn / Clos St Imer

“Medium-dark yellow. Explosive aromas of strawberry, poached pear, mirabelle, cinnamon, cardamom and white truffle, complicated by hints of vanilla, smoke and acacia honey. Silky, suave and sweet, with mouthfilling flavors of caramel apple and strawberry. The finish is sweetly spicy and very long, showing obvious smoky botrytis character on the back. Simply great stuff, made with 50% botrytized grapes from two parcels that are about 50 years old. Harvested on October 20, this is essentially a VT and is a frankly sweet wine, but pinot gris (remember, we’re talking pinot grigio here!) this good makes you realize why it is really is (or can be) a truly noble variety.”
