“A new cuvee, the 2013 Vin de France Les Perles De Jones Syrah comes from 35-year-old vines grown in the schist soils around the town of Tuchan, which is near the estate. It has classic Syrah notes of peppery herbs, darker fruits, licorice and chocolate to go with an elegant, yet nicely concentrated, lively, pure feel on the palate. The hallmark purity and silky texture of this estate shows here, and this is a serious wine that will offer up tons of pleasure over the coming 4-5 years, if not longer.
Katie Jones continues to fashion brilliant wines from her tiny cellar in the village of Tuchan. The focus here is on low yields, hard work in the vineyards, and straightforward winemaking in the cellar. The results speak for themselves. Her wines emphasize fruit, yet have a purity and seamlessness that sets them apart. I think in almost all cases, these represent superb values and readers need to latch onto a few of these.”
