WINERY PROFILE | Domaine Sainte Croix

“The rock star 2012 Corbières Magneric is a blend of 42% Carignan, 29% Grenache and 29% Syrah that saw complete destemming and 16-20 months in 75% barrels (228-400 liter French oak) and the rest in tank. It gives up terrific notes of cassis, peppery herbs, licorice toasted bread and wild herbs. This flows to a full-bodied, beautifully balanced red that has a seamless, layered texture, solid richness and a great finish. It’s a smoking value and can be drunk anytime over the coming 5-7 years. I first tasted the wines from this estate last year, and I loved the 2010s. These 2012s and 2011 are even better. Located in the Corbières region, the estate is run by Jon and Elizabeth Bowen and covers 13 hectares of diverse terrors. The style here could be categorized as modern, with complete destemming and aging in barrel, yet the fruit shines and these have terrific character. Don’t miss them!”
