Perhaps the Finest Value in the Entire Cotes de Nuits

Marsannay is a very interesting commune within the diverse and celebrated terroirs of Burgundy. Here, about two thirds of the wines produced are red – and Marsannay is the only commune in Burgundy where rose wines are permitted. While there are no Premier Cru or Grand Cru sites in Marsannay, this may actually have the unintended “consequence” of elevating the quality of village level wines, as even the very top sites are blended into wines such as the Marsannay on offer today from Chanson – rather than bottled as separate higher priced releases.

The 2014 vintage in Burgundy was challenging – as many portions of the appellation were struck by hail (the Côtes de Nuits was generally less impacted by this hail storm) resulting in a small but quite high quality harvest. This Marsannay from Chanson is structured and classically styled delivering aging potential beyond its relatively humble price tag and village appellation designation.

“Mint, graphite and cherry notes combine in this silky red. Firms up as the succulent fruit remains saturated and resonant on the long finish. Best from 2018 through 2029.”
